During the Annual Meeting in Prague earlier this year, a collection of ISHLT Past Presidents sat down with one another for a conversation on the evolution of cardiothoracic transplantation science, the growth of the Society, and their thoughts on where the field is headed. They also discuss influential mentors they’ve had in their careers and share advice to those just starting their professional journey.

ISHLT has joined with a number of other societies to support a survey about transplant professionals’ experience of providing care to patients who have travelled internationally for organ donation or transplantation. The survey will close this Sunday, 15 December, and no extensions will be made.

Chung-Wai Chow, MD, PhD, FRCPC, of the University of Toronto, is the guest on the first December episode of JHLT The Podcast to discuss her paper, “Pollution exposure in the first 3 months post transplant is associated with lower baseline FEV1 and higher CLAD risk.”

Following a five-year hiatus, the world’s only registry of patients with durable mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices is re-launching and will begin collecting data from institutions around the globe in early 2025. The International Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support (IMACS) registry is operated by the International Society for Health and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), a global multidisciplinary professional organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with advanced heart and lung disease.

In response to a Special Public Comment request from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN), the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) has submitted official comments on the OPTN’s proposed “Update Criteria for Post-Transplant Graft Survival Metrics.”
