International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation has announced the results of the member election for 2021 Board of Directors. The Society will welcome seven members of the Board of Directors at the 41st Annual ISHLT Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions in April 2021.

ISHLT has added Sue Bessner as the organization’s Director of Education and Research and Jess Burke as Director of Marketing and Communications.

A researcher at the University of Chicago Medical Center has been awarded a grant to assess whether telemedicine, imposed by the pandemic, leads to improved patient satisfaction and access to care. Karen Meehan MSN, ACNS-BC, CVRN, an advanced practice nurse and VAD coordinator at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Ill., has been awarded the ISHLT/ICCAC VAD Coordinator Career Development Award, sponsored by Medtronic.

For the sixth year in a row, The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation’s Impact Factor earned the publication the number one ranking in the transplantation category. In addition, the Journal also ranked number four in Surgery, number seven in Respiratory and number 13 in the highly competitive Cardiovascular category.

Jordan R.H. Hoffman, MD, Assistant Professor in Cardiac Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN., has received the O.H. Frazier Award in MCS Translational Research sponsored by Medtronic and administered by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).

The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation released the first report examining the impact of COVID-19 on two heart transplant recipients who contracted the virus in their native China. The study, the first of its kind globally, may provide insight into how the virus will impact transplant recipients around the world.

ISHLT has announced the addition of Aaron Adair as the organization’s Chief Operating Officer and Jacky Schweinzger, CMP, as the organization’s Director of Meetings and Education.

ISHLT has announced the appointment of Gregory L. Schultz, CAE as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 6, 2020. He will succeed retiring Executive Director Amanda Rowe, who has led ISHLT for 27 years.

Shelley Miyamoto, MD, of Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, Colorado, has been awarded the ISHLT/Enduring Hearts Transplant Longevity Award for her work looking at the early diagnosis of a common cause of post-transplant morbidity.

Kiran Khush, M.D., Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Stanford University, was awarded the ISHLT/Enduring Hearts Transplant Longevity Award for her work examining a new pathway involved in the development of chronic rejection after heart transplantation, which opens the door for innovative treatment options.

The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) announced the election of six new board members and officers.

The 2017 impact factor for JHLT rose again this year, standing at 7.955, up from last year’s 7.114. In addition, the Journal continued to rank at #1 in transplantation and #3 out of 200 in the highly competitive field of surgery.
