Evidence is emerging about the immunogenicity of vaccination to the SARS-CoV-2 virus in immune-suppressed individuals, including organ transplant recipients. The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation (JHLT) presents two key studies in thoracic organ transplantation.

The International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) awarded three grants to researchers in the fields of heart transplantation, MCS, and VAD coordination at the closing plenary session of its Annual Meeting on Wednesday, 28 April 2021.

During its 2021 virtual Annual Meeting, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) honored the recipients of its 2020 and 2021 Lifetime Achievement Awards, and announced the creation of the Amanda W. Rowe Distinguished Service Award.

ISHLT will host its 41st Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions on 24-28 April, 2021. The all-virtual event will include educational content spanning the breadth of clinical practice and research concerning heart and lung transplantation, advanced heart and lung disease, mechanical circulatory support, and pulmonary vascular disease.

International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation has announced the results of the member election for 2021 Board of Directors. The Society will welcome seven members of the Board of Directors at the 41st Annual ISHLT Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions in April 2021.

ISHLT has added Sue Bessner as the organization’s Director of Education and Research and Jess Burke as Director of Marketing and Communications.

A researcher at the University of Chicago Medical Center has been awarded a grant to assess whether telemedicine, imposed by the pandemic, leads to improved patient satisfaction and access to care. Karen Meehan MSN, ACNS-BC, CVRN, an advanced practice nurse and VAD coordinator at the University of Chicago Medical Center in Chicago, Ill., has been awarded the ISHLT/ICCAC VAD Coordinator Career Development Award, sponsored by Medtronic.

For the sixth year in a row, The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation’s Impact Factor earned the publication the number one ranking in the transplantation category. In addition, the Journal also ranked number four in Surgery, number seven in Respiratory and number 13 in the highly competitive Cardiovascular category.

Jordan R.H. Hoffman, MD, Assistant Professor in Cardiac Surgery at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, TN., has received the O.H. Frazier Award in MCS Translational Research sponsored by Medtronic and administered by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT).
