ISHLT Statement on Access to Abortion and Reproductive Health14 July 2022
Recognizing that abortion is a controversial issue approached in many ways around the world, the June 24, 2022, United States Supreme Court decision overturning Roe vs. Wade provides an important opportunity to remind those making health policy decisions of the added complexities end-stage heart and lung diseases bring to the reproductive decisions facing women of child-bearing potential, particularly those who have received a heart and/or lung transplant.

Rebecca Cogswell, MD, Named Incoming Medical Director of the International Thoracic Organ Transplant11 July 2022
The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) named Rebecca Cogswell, MD, the Medical Director of the Society’s International Thoracic Organ Transplant (TTX) Registry. Dr. Cogswell succeeds Josef Stehlik, MD, MPH, who concludes eleven years of service as Registry Medical Director, during which he expanded the registry’s international participation, use and citations, and recently completed a process to ensure data collection is robust and GDPR compliant.

JHLT: Tops in Transplantation29 June 2022
For the eighth year in a row, The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation’s Impact Factor earned the publication the number one ranking in the transplantation category. JHLT has also maintained its ranking of 4th in Surgery and 5th in Respiratory, and increased its rank to 10th in the highly competitive Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems category (from 13 in 2020).

ISHLT grants fund research to improve the care of patients with advanced heart and lung disease through transplantation, mechanical circulatory support (MCS), and innovative therapies.

ISHLT Launches Foundation to Fund Research in Thoracic Transplantation, Mechanical Circulatory Support, and Pulmonary Hypertension27 April 2022
ISHLT has established a new sister organization: the ISHLT Foundation. This new entity serves as the charitable arm of ISHLT, and will fund a global portfolio of research grants and fellowship awards to improve patient care for advanced heart and lung disease.

ISHLT Professional Communities Elect Leaders Across Seven Specialties1 April 2022
ISHLT has announced the results of the 2022 member elections for Professional Community leaders, who serve as representatives to the four ISHLT Interdisciplinary Network Steering Committees. Seventeen leaders across seven professional specialties were elected to serve three-year terms beginning 1 May, 2022, immediately following the 2022 ISHLT Annual Meeting.
