The 43rd Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions marked the start of ISHLT’s incorporation of social responsibility efforts during events to increase the positive impact ISHLT makes on host cities. Due to your generous donations to the ISHLT2023 Sock Drive, ISHLT was able to donate 900 pairs of socks to the Denver Rescue Mission to help those experiencing homelessness.

The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) announced more than $400,000 USD in funding for research designed to improve care for patients with advanced heart and lung disease. The grants were funded by the ISHLT Foundation, and announced at the 43rd ISHLT Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions, held 19-22 April in Denver. These grants are the first of two 2023 ISHLT grant cycles. The second cycle opens in May 2023.

During its 43rd Annual Meeting in Denver, the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation will honor Jon Kobashigawa, MD, as the recipient of the ISHLT’s 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award.

A new joint guideline published today by the HFSA and ISHLT addresses the growing availability and use of acute or temporary mechanical support devices. The joint guideline provides critical recommendations and protocols for the management of patients requiring acute mechanical circulatory support (MCS), with the goals of improving quality of life and reducing the high mortality rates and complications associated with cardiogenic and pulmonary shock.

Attendees will meet in-person in Denver, CO USA on 19-22 April, 2023. The program features presentations spanning a breadth of clinical practice and research concerning heart and lung transplantation, advanced heart and lung disease, mechanical circulatory support, and pulmonary vascular disease.

ISHLT has announced the results of the 2022 member election for the 2023 Board of Directors as well as leadership positions in the Professional Communities. The Society will welcome six members to the Board of Directors and 14 leaders across various specialties to serve as representatives to the 4 ISHLT Interdisciplinary Network Steering Committees and the Early Career & Trainee Committee beginning 1 May, 2023, immediately following the ISHLT 43rd Annual Meeting & Scientific Sessions.

ISHLT and the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT) have collaborated to offer an Academy course on Mechanical Circulatory Support on 13 November, concurrently with the first day of the ESOT TLJ 3.0 Consensus Conference.
