JHLT Partners with Early Career and Trainee Committee for Paper Review Training
On 24 September, the ISHLT Early Career and Trainee Committee (ECTC) and The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation (JHLT) co-hosted a sold-out webinar to provide hands-on experience reviewing a scientific paper.
About a week before the session, attendees received a sample paper and were asked to read it and prepare notes for a review. Upon joining the session, JHLT Editor-in-Chief Joseph Rogers, MD, led the group in a brief didactic session covering key tips for creating a great review. The session broke into discussion groups, each led by a member of the JHLT Editorial Team, to discuss the ins and outs of creating a review for that specific paper.
Paper assignments were based on the attendee’s professional specialty and preference indicated at registration, and included a wide range of topics across all ISHLT Interdisciplinary Networks and including options for specialties like pediatrics, infectious diseases, and nursing and allied health.
Due to the enthusiasm surrounding this session, JHLT and ECTC will continue to collaborate on ways to involve trainees, early career professionals, and other junior faculty with training and volunteer opportunities that support their ambitions and add to the success of the Journal.
