Four attendees at the ISHLT2024 Meet the Experts event pose and smile for the cameraOn 23 July, more than 50 ISHLT members and nonmembers from 8 countries gathered for an exchange of ideas about early career and trainee participation in the Society.

Led by the ISHLT Early Career and Trainee Committee (ECTC) and hosted by ECTC co-chair Andrew Morley Smith, MRCP, PhD, the Open Discussion included representatives from all ten of ISHLT’s Professional Communities. The event also connected early career attendees with experts like ISHLT President Christian Benden, MD, MBA, FCCP; past president and ECTC Co-Chair Andreas Zuckermann, MD; and past Standards and Guidelines Chair Patricia Ging, MSc.

The interactive session included breakout discussions for each professional community in attendance, followed by topic-focused breakouts on:

  • ISHLT Explainer: What’s the difference between a PC and an IDN?
  • Career Development in Transplantation
  • Standards and Guidelines
  • Research Collaboration and Networking

Interested readers are welcome to review the insights and ideas from each of these breakout discussions, or to contact the Early Career and Trainee Committee chairs or your professional community’s representative with questions
