The field of cardiothoracic transplantation (CT) has evolved significantly, but infections remain an important cause of morbidity and mortality, particularly fungal infections (FIs). The higher mortality associated with FIs has prompted the institution of center-specific anti-fungal prophylactic strategies. In the absence of existing clinical trials, the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) Infectious Diseases Council convened an international and multidisciplinary panel of experts in the field to address the issue.

The panel was divided into working group to specifically focus on epidemiology, diagnosis, prophylaxis, treatment, TDM, and pediatrics. The resulting document summarizes the most current literature in the field of fungal infections related to MCS and heart/lung transplantation.
