This core competency document provides a practical and concise clinical review for medical professionals to develop understanding and management of ventricular assist devices and the Total Artificial Heart in children with and without congenital heart disease and adults with congenital heart disease.
The text is also designed to assist pediatric centers in the development of a comprehensive ventricular assist device support program. It is meant to be a guide for expert development and serves as part of the educational curriculum of the ISHLT. It provides
the basis for separate learning activities and self-directed study.
