The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) has submitted official comments on three proposals from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) for OPTN’s Summer Public Comment period.

The proposals addressed by ISHLT include:

ISHLT’s comments were carefully crafted by the Society’s Advocacy Committee, chaired by Stuart Sweet, MD, PhD. The Committee gathered input from ISHLT’s four IDN Steering Committees, the general membership, and panels of experts to ensure a well-rounded and informed response. Final comments were approved by the ISHLT Executive Committee.

ISHLT’s Advocacy Committee plays a pivotal role in shaping the Society’s responses to global policy issues, with the aim of improving care and outcomes for patients with advanced heart and lung disease.

The OPTN public comment process occurs twice annually, offering the opportunity for all stakeholders, including transplant candidates, to provide feedback before proposals are finalized and submitted to the OPTN Board of Directors. Public comment is a key part of policy development, ensuring that diverse perspectives help shape the future of organ procurement and transplantation policy.
