Joseph Rogers, MD, Named Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation
The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), which publishes The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation (JHLT) with Elsevier, has named Joseph Rogers, MD, as the new editor-in-chief of the Journal. Dr. Rogers is the President and CEO of the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, TX USA.
ISHLT is a global, multidisciplinary organization dedicated to the advancement of the science and treatment of end-stage heart and lung diseases through research, education, and advocacy in transplantation, mechanical support, and innovative therapies. JHLT is the Society’s flagship journal, a recognized leader in the field, ranked #1 in the Transplantation category by SCIE Impact Factor and placing in the top ten in the Surgery and Respiratory categories.
Dr. Rogers’ selection was made after a rigorous and comprehensive search process directed by the ISHLT’s Publications Oversight Committee and approved by the ISHLT Board of Directors.

Dr. Rogers will focus on ensuring that JHLT delivers the most impactful and relevant information to readers while improving editorial efficiency and creating an appealing platform for publication of internationally and professionally meaningful scientific content in advanced heart and lung failure. His goals include improving the authorial experience, streamlining the review process, and ensuring JHLT remains the journal of choice for the advanced heart and lung failure community.
After a transition period in collaboration with Interim Editor-in-Chief Michelle Kittleson, MD, PhD, of the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Rogers will formally assume the Editor-in-Chief position on 1 July, 2024.

Dr. Rogers, a past president of the ISHLT, has made prolific contributions to the field of heart and lung transplantation, advancing research in mechanical circulatory support and pioneering improvements in cardiac transplant programs that have notably enhanced patient outcomes. His extensive publications in leading medical journals reflect his deep commitment to developing transformative clinical practices.
