GENERAL SESSION II
9:45 – 11:15 a.m. | Congress Hall, Floor 2
General Session II will feature discussions on humanitarian crisis and a patient’s perspective on the transplantation journey. First, Jill John-Kall, MD, MSc of International Medical Corps based in Los Angeles, CA USA will outline the general pattern and characteristics of humanitarian crisis, its developments and dynamics, its issues and consequences, and how it is managed by a government funded non-profit organization. Yana Martyshyna, MD of International Medical Corps based in Kyiv, Ukraine will then present on the humanitarian crisis occurring in Ukraine during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Next, Glen Kelley of The Mended Hearts in Minneapolis, MN USA will share his transplantation journey to patient advocacy and share his thoughts and perspectives on disease and treatments with the purpose of increasing understanding among all professions of how such a life is lived.
Additional seating will be available in the Congress Hall balcony, accessible on Floor 4.
2024 LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD RECIPIENT LECTURE

Join 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Lori J. West, MD, DPhil, during General Session II for her remarks on her pioneering work and contributions to the transplantation field. To learn more about Dr. West’s career, read this press release.
The ISHLT Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Society, bestowed on individuals who have made a significant contribution toward improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease or engaged in pioneering work that improved the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease.

ORAL SESSION 15 – EARLY CAREER & TRAINEE CLINICAL CASE DILEMMAS: THE BEST OF THE BEST AWARD SESSION

The Early Career & Trainee Clinical Case Dilemmas Best Presentation Award recognizes excellence by early career and trainees from top abstracts submitted in the Early Career Clinical Case Reports category. Expert senior clinicians are invited to discuss the intricacies of these cases and share clinical pearls. At the conclusion of the session, the best case presentation is selected by a panel of judges. Four finalists will present their research in this session and the winner will be announced during General Session III on Saturday, 13 April.
ECP IMMUNOMODULATION IN THORACIC TRANSPLANTATION CHALLEGE GRANT SELECTION SESSION

SYMPOSIUM 20 – I'LL TELL YOU WHAT I WANT, WHAT I REALLY REALLY WANT: ADVICE FOR EARLY CAREER PROFESSIONALS

This session, designed by the Early Career and Trainee Committee, will provide an overview of advice for early career professionals as they start their careers, take on leadership roles (locally or within the society), become teachers/mentors, and navigate work-life balance including parenthood, while avoiding burnout. This session also will be of great value for leaders and those in more advanced stages of their careers. A panel discussion with all speakers including audience Q&A, led by the session moderators, will conclude this session.
