Raymond L. Benza, M.D., Allegheny General Hospital Cardiologist, Named Treasurer of ISHLT
Addison, Texas – June 5, 2018 – Dr. Raymond L. Benza, a cardiologist at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) in Pittsburgh and Professor of Medicine at Temple University, College of Medicine, has been named Treasurer of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT). Dr. Benza, the James Magovern Chair of Cardiovascular Research at AGH, is also Medical Director for Advanced Heart Failure, Transplantation, Mechanical Circulatory Support and Pulmonary Hypertension for the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Cardiovascular Institute at AGH.
“Having been affiliated with the ISHLT for many years, I know full well the impactful work the organization is capable of doing,” said Dr. Benza, who has been a member of ISHLT since 1997.
“I look forward to serving in this leadership post and playing a role in further advancing the science and treatment of end-stage heart and lung disease.”
The ISHLT is the world’s largest multidisciplinary, professional organization dedicated to improving the care of patients with advanced heart or lung disease through transplantation, mechanical support and innovative therapies.
Dr.Benza focuses his clinical interests on the evaluation and treatment of congestive heart failure, cardiac transplantation and pulmonary arterial hypertension. He was named Physician of the Year by the Pulmonary Hypertension Association in 2013. He has long participated in most major clinical studies of new therapies for the treatment of heart failure, mechanical support and pulmonary hypertension.
Dr. Benza received his medical degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, in 1989.
