An International Update on Perioperative Lung Transplantation Management
Tuesday, 7 February, 2023 | 3:00 p.m. EST

In the spirit of ISHLT collaboration, we are pleased to invite speakers from fellow cardiothoracic transplantation anesthesiology societies, with representation from Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA), Society for the Advancement of Transplant Anesthesia (SATA), and the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Intensive Care (EACTAIC). Additionally, to represent ISHLT multidisciplinary care, we are pleased to invite a non-A&CC PC colleague to represent our society within the webinar.

We hope that this multi-societal, multidisciplinary approach will highlight the mission of ISHLT to anesthesiology colleagues from around the world.

Donor Lung Acceptance and Recipient-Donor Matching
Wednesday, 22 February, 2023 | 3:00 p.m. EST

This webinar will focus on donor lung acceptance, and a transplant surgeon, a pulmonologist, and a transplant coordinator will discuss their perspectives about the practical considerations of donor lung acceptance. The speakers will also discuss donor-recipient matching including factors such as donor quality, recipient severity of illness and clinical condition, and size. Finally, we will have a speaker give a brief overview on the potential role for AI/ML for organ allocation and donor-recipient matching in the future.

The Future is Now: Use of Hepatitis B Virus and HIV Positive Donors for Thoracic Transplant
Co-Presented with the Transplant ID Section of TTS
Monday, 27 February, 2023 | 2:00 p.m. EST

The number of patients awaiting thoracic transplantation continues to exceed the number of available donor organs, highlighting the clinical and public health need to expand the donor pool. While there is limited experience with transplantation of thoracic organs from HBV- or HIV-infected donors, transplantation of thoracic organs from HBV-infected donors into HBV-negative recipients and from HIV-infected donors into recipients living with HIV may provide new hope for those on the waitlist. However, this also presents unique challenges for physicians managing the increased complexity of these transplants. This session, presented by ISHLT and the TID Section of TTS, will educate providers on how best to weigh the opportunities and challenges of these organs, summarize the available data for HBV-mismatched transplants and transplantation of organs from HIV+ donors to recipients living with HIV, and share experiences from two centers conducting transplants using the HBV+ and HIV+ donor pool.

Surprise, Surprise! Unexpected Diagnoses in Heart and Lung Transplant Pathology
Tuesday, 28 February, 2023 | 2:00 p.m. EST

This webinar will focus on unexpected morphologic findings in heart and lung explants such as neoplasms and acute lung injury among others and the importance of a thorough gross and microscopic examination of explants in a timely manner. Unexpected morphologic findings such as donor-related abnormalities, mimickers of rejection, and neoplasms in allograft biopsies of hearts and lungs will also be shown. Index cases will be presented by early career pathologists and trainees, and then discussed with international experts who will also provide brief overviews of the latest developments in this field.
