Call for Symposia Proposals

The ISHLT2023 Symposium Proposal Submission Site is now closed.

ISHLT invites all members to submit symposia proposals for consideration to the ISHLT2023 Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions. The Submission Guide is now ready for your review so you can start developing your symposia proposal. Note that only ISHLT members may submit proposals, so the submission site can only be accessed via ISHLTconnect.

Symposia Sessions at ISHLT2023
The 2023 scientific program will feature mainly 60-minute sessions, with a slight reduction in overall symposia (47 as compared to 54 in 2022). ISHLT’s symposia sessions will highlight the Society’s interdisciplinary nature while encouraging cross-collaboration among its Professional Communities (PCs).

Below are the estimated number of symposia slots for the 2023 scientific program in Denver.

Who Can Submit a Symposium Proposal?
Only ISHLT members are permitted to submit proposals. Proposals submitted by non-members or by members who are employed by industry will not be considered.

Determining Content to be Covered in Symposia Proposals
We encourage members to discuss potential topics using the PC and IDN forums on the ISHLTconnect platform. Log in to ISHLTconnect here.

When determining potential topics for symposia proposals, review the ISHLT CME Mission Statement below to ensure some or all the components are incorporated into your symposium proposal.

ISHLT CME MISSION STATEMENT
  • Conduct programs which enable our members to learn about new developments, current practices, emerging technologies, and medical advances related to end-stage heart and lung disease and transplantation.
  • Provide forums for examination, discussion, and debate regarding the efficacy and applicability of these current practices, emerging technologies, and medical advances.
  • Conduct programs which, through their breadth and depth of offerings, provide comprehensive coverage of the multifaceted, multidisciplinary field of end-stage heart and lung disease and transplantation.

In addition, below are helpful topics lists, organized by core therapy, that respondents to the ISHLT2022 CME/CE and Post In-Person Event Evaluations indicated they would be interested in learning more about in the next 12 months.

You are strongly encouraged to consult with the Interdisciplinary Network (IDN) Steering Committee appropriate to your topic before submitting a proposal. They can help to identify unmet educational needs/practice gaps and prioritize proposal topics. The list of current IDNs can be found HERE.

Submitting Your Symposium Proposal
All final proposals must be submitted online via the OASIS Symposium Proposal Submission Site. Access to this site is available to ISHLT members only and is posted in ISHLTconnect.

Symposium Proposal Tips
  •   Pick a symposium topic that will have broad appeal to the ISHLT membership.
  •   Develop an attention-grabbing title that describes the topic.
  •   There are two symposium session lengths to choose from: 60 minutes or 90 minutes. Select a Symposium Template best suited to your proposal idea as a guide in developing your symposium proposal.
  •   Cross-collaboration between multiple IDNs and PCs is encouraged when developing symposia proposals. The submission form will allow you to choose multiple IDNs and PCs.
  •   You are encouraged to balance gender, international, and early career representation when selecting faculty.
  •   All symposia co-chairs must be ISHLT members.
  •   You are strongly encouraged to select current ISHLT members as speakers. Non-members may be replaced by the Program Planning Committee if they believe there is an ISHLT member with comparable expertise. If a non-member speaker is suggested, justification must be provided in the space provided on the submission site.
  •   The final proposal must be submitted online through the OASIS system by 30 June at 11:59 p.m. EDT. The complete Symposium Proposal Timeline is available HERE.
